VOSibilities podcast #42: Where does BPM go now? A business and technology perspective

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Attached to this post is a recording of a webinar originally delivered on February 3, 2010 that features Dennis Callaghan, principle analyst, enterprise software, The 451 Group. The topic was Where does BPM go now? A business and technology perspective. Callaghan reviews the consolidation in the BPM marketplace and discusses his predictions of the near-term future for BPM. This is coupled with a demonstration of the ActiveVOS BPMS, which is used to illustrate what is possible in a pure-play BPMS today.

Three versions of the podcast are attached. An iPod touch/iPhone-formatted .m4v, a Flash file that can be downloaded and/or played from the blog and a Windows Media 9-formatted .wmv

VOSibilities podcast #33: BPMS, IT, business users and the real state of collaboration

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

I am very excited to post a replay of an exceptionally well-received webinar we first presented on June 3, 2009. In this webinar, noted analyst, blogger and consultant Sandy Kemsley joins us to present IT-Business Collaboration on BPM.

Sandy’s riveting presentation gets to the very core of a heated, on-going debate about business process management (BPM): Can business end users actually develop and deploy complex, integrated business processes using today’s business process management systems (BPMSs)? Will they? Even, should they?

You will hear Sandy discuss the “four myths of BPM,” namely:

  • Myth #1: Users will use a BPMS to create executable process models
  • Myth #2: Business users and analysts can create executable process models
  • Myth #3 (My favorite!): Business users want to create executable business process models
  • Myth #4: IT wants business end users to use a BPMS to create executable process models

I think you will find Sandy’s detailed discussion of these issues fascinating. And, after Sandy’s talk you can see how the ActiveVOS BPMS fits how things should be: a world in which development teams composed of IT and business analysts collaborate to create integrated, end-to-end, deployable process models.

Because of the very positive feedback we received from the attendees who attended the live webinar, I am posting multiple versions of the recording to ensure that you have the opportunity to watch it. In addition to the usual iPod-formatted .m4v file (140MB), this post also contains a 437MB DivX-encoded .avi file and a 94MB Windows Media 9-encoded .wmv file. Finally, for our bandwidth-challenged readers, I have also posted a PDF of Sandy’s PowerPoint slides. I strongly recommend that you download one of the recordings so you can fully appreciate the wisdom of Sandy’s presentation.

We welcome your feedback. If you’d like to discuss this topic on Twitter, please use the “#activevos” search term…we’ll join you in the discussion there. You can also follow us on Twitter here.

VOSibilities podcast #14: Webinar replay – Real World SOA

Friday, July 25th, 2008

We are very pleased to present a replay of a webinar that we presented jointly with the JBoss division of Red Hat entitled How to Achieve Your SOA Vision in the Real World.

Presenting along with me are Pierre Fricke of JBoss and Mike Moniz of Active Endpoints. The webinar details our companies’ joint vision and technology for how developers, managers, enterprise architects and business analysts can move beyond the debates, the complexity and the high costs that have torpedoed implementation of SOA-based applications for far too long.

And, Active Endpoints is very proud to show publicly for the first time the upcoming ActiveVOS 6.0 (slated to to generally available in August, 2008) which completely resets the standard for what an integrated, all-in-one development and deployment system can achieve. Be sure to check out Mike’s amazing demo. And I also recommend you stick around for the lively panel Q&A at the end of the webinar.

You may have also noticed that when we have a video podcast, I try to post both a higher resolution .avi and an iPod-formatted .m4v. The .avi is approximately 150MB; the .m4v is approximately 80MB.

There are three ways to watch the webinar replay. In ascending order of resolution they are: playing the .m4v file from the website, which results in a 320×240 image. If you download the .m4v file, it will play in iTunes or QuickTime at 640×480. Finally, if you download the .avi, the resolution is 775×582. The .avi file is DivX encoded, so most everyone should be able to view it.

As always, we’d love to know what you think of the webinar. Please email me comments at editor@activevos.com or post a comment here.
