11g Prisoners

In October, 2009 Oracle held its mammoth Oracle OpenWorld event in San Francisco and launched Oracle SOA Suite 11g at the show.

We obviously think that SOA Suite 11g is like a ball and chain around the necks of BPMS users. So, we set out to try a little pr stunt at the show. We would hire actors, dress them as prisoners, chant slogans, hand out cards and have a social media contest: if you took a picture, wrote a blog or tweeted about us, you could come to a party, show your media and the audience (in true social media style) would pick a winner. Three people won iPods.

It turned out to be a massive success, despite rain, wind and Oracle’s attempts to have us thrown off public property.

Here are some memorabilia from our stunt at Oracle OpenWorld in October of 2009

The front of  a card we handed out inviting people to our street theater. Note the famous person on the bicycle:

The back of the card with the 11 reasons not to consider Oracle SOA Suite 11g. Think David Letterman’s nightly Top 10 countdown. My favorite? #2:

And, as a payoff for getting this far on the page :-) , here are some of the videos we took from our street theater demonstration outside the Moscone Center. The weather was wild — and the response was even wilder.

This is is titled, appropriately in our thinking, Free Yourself from the Bondage of Oracle SOA Suite 11g.

One prisoner begs for mercy — and to be relived from the prison of using Oracle SOA Suite 11g:

And in something we think must have stung Oracle a little, here’s a link to IDG’s coverage of Oracle OpenWorld which, among all the things they could have covered at show this size and scope, chooses to cover our little pr stunt.

Did the Goliath notice? You bet.
